This stunning vintage brass butterfly will add a touch of whimsy aesthetic to any space. This particular butterfly figurine seems to be a reproduction, likely made in the 1970's or early 80's, after the original brass butterflies most commonly associated with Curtis Jere (often signed C. Jeré) were originally produced in the 1960s–1970s.
“Curtis Jere” was the combined name of artists Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels, who founded Artisan House in 1963. They became well known for their large-scale wall sculptures and decorative metal art made from brass, copper, and steel. The pierced brass butterfly motif—often with delicate cutouts and long wire antennae like this one —was a popular mid-century modern decorative piece during that era.
This particular figurine is in great vintage condition. The brass has a lovely patina and some minor divets and small scratches that lend it a storied air and make an even better conversation piece. You can't find this at your local home goods store.
