Some pieces feel like they’ve lived quiet lives before arriving in yours.
This vintage lacquered bowl features a deep oxblood finish with delicate gold botanical detailing wrapping around its curved form. The floral motif — softly etched against fine linear striping — reflects the classic decorative lacquerware exported from Japan during the mid- to late-20th century.
Originally part of a lidded candy or keepsake dish, this bowl now stands beautifully on its own. The interior and base are raw, unfinished wood — a common characteristic of decorative export lacquerware from this era — giving it a subtle contrast between its glossy exterior and its natural interior.
We love it styled as:
• A bedside ring bowl
• A resting place for matches or incense
• A small catchall on a moody bookshelf
• A quiet accent layered into a collected vignette
At 4.5” wide, it’s substantial enough to feel grounded, yet small enough to tuck effortlessly into intimate corners of your home.
There’s something especially charming about pieces that evolve — objects that shift from their original purpose into something more personal. This one carries that kind of quiet story.
